Producers of quality grass fed beef and lamb, following regenerative practices, chemically free with no synthetic fertilisers. The result is quality, nutrient dense protein. The wellbeing of our animals is our top priority whilst regenerating the land for future generations.

Smitty’s Farm is a family-owned farm located in South Gippsland, Victoria. The area is synonymous with high annual rainfall and food production. We are a registered Square Meater Stud and produce high quality beef for the domestic market whilst also selling stud and commercial animals to various farms. An example of the flexibility of the breed is a first cross Square Meater / Jersey carcass with marbling second to none.

Our Cattle

Our preferred breed of cattle is Square Meaters, they are a moderate frame and therefore lighter on the land, they have a placid and quiet disposition and are easy to handle. A high yield rate is a differentiating trait of the breed.

Square Meaters Award Winning Meat

Square Meaters are a moderate framed Australian breed of beef cattle that boast some outstanding achievements in live and carcass competitions around Australia. Their ability to finish on grass underpins their sustainable fit with the environment. Square Meaters have distinct colour characteristic, which range from silver through grey to a dark grey, which can include shades of brown. These colours are solid not patchy the skin has a dark pigment, which provides some protection from sunburn and skin cancer.

Traits of Square Meaters: Easy Calving, Polled, Explosive Early Growth, Compact mature Size, Quiet Temperament, Structural Soundness, Reproductive Efficiency, Production Efficiency and most importantly – Better Beef! ’Square Meaters consistently punch above their weight in hook and hoof shows, winning numerous live and carcass awards at major shows across the country. They also perform exceptionally well in virtual taste test contests. The inherent traits of docility, muscularity and early finishing ability, means Square Meaters will produce tasty and tender premium beef cuts with few, if any, artificial inputs at a young age’.

Regenerative Farming

It's All About Soil Health

By planting multispecies pastures, and applying organic inputs directly to our paddocks, using minimal disturbing methods, results in feeding the microorganisms in the soils. This results in building healthy soils which in turn results in healthy nutrient rich pasture for our livestock to graze, which results in a quality nutrient dense natural animal proteinsource and supply.

To further support the land and soil, we have planted in excess 8,000 trees and shrubs, building native corridors that provide wind breaks and safe refuge and habitat for the local wildlife. These shelter belts greatly benefit the health of our livestock as well as the fauna, flora and soil health.
